Toronto trip on thursday the 24th of March 2011

So we board a school bus heading to Toronto on the 24th of March 2011 at around nine in the morning. We arrive across the boarder around twelve-thirty in the afternoon. Traffic was backed up as uasual on the QEW but not that bad. After we got off the bus we all split up into several small grops to go and check out things that were related to fashion and accessories. I went with a couple of the guys from the fashion design program checking out some of the different boutiques Toronto had to offer. It has been a while since I had been or seen the shops they have. We had lunch at a tuorist version chinese restaurant and I had the steamed chicken with veggies (half order). It was quite the meal and enjoyed sharing a few moments with my fellow peers and professor. It reminded me of when I was stationed over seas. (more on that another time) We made are way through the busy streets of Toronto and are destination was the shoes museum that housed some lifes earliest constructed shoes. However before we got there we made a few more pit stops one being my favorite and I will most likely get choked out for repeating it over and over was the Hermes shop on Bloor street. To me it was very nice quaite little shop, not like what I was use to seeing in Japan. Yet it had some pieces that if given the chance to save for retirement or blow all my funds right than and there if I would have had some. I would have choose the latter of the two. I will continue about the shoe muesum on another blog there is far to much to say about it here.

Little Black Dress LBD

On the seventh of March 2011 I pinned, measured, and cut out the pattern pieces from the suede fabric that I chose to do the LDB in. A fellow student gave me a bit of her extra lining for my LBD since I had forgotten to pick some up of my own. I am very grateful for that kind gesture. It is of a Violet/ Red Violet to a hint of blue satin/silk material. I have pinned, measured, and cut out the pieces of the pattern in the satin/silk lining that needed to be sewn together with the lining. Pinning through the suede was a tad bit difficult, but I did happen to manage. It was also tricky cutting out the patterns from the suede material. I did not have any room for error. Today I also found out the Muslin version fit the women that I was making it for almost perfect. Give or take an inch. I can't even imagine that I pieced it together so damn well. I will have photos posted shortly of everything from where I am up to so far in the final version of the LBD.

Little Black Dress LBD

For the past three weeks or so starting around the fourteenth of February 2011 till the third of March 2011 I have been working on sewing a Muslin version of the LBD. I have to say it went quite well with that particular material. No slips, tears, or major disasters which I would hope that is a sign. I do have a feeling that the fabric that I did finally pick to construct the final dress will most likely be harder. However I'm up for the challenge. I do believe in myself to be able to do this for a living and no matter what anyone wants to think or say I really do enjoy this hands-on type of work. Wait did I just say WORK no wait FUN FUN FUN.
